After several months of being stuck in the house with literally nothing to do, we noticed that Jacob’s gait was beginning to change due to being more sedentary. We have noticed improvements since Jacob returned to the program.
The program has also given Jacob a purpose to his days. He will ask everyday what his dad, sister and I are doing and then ‘what about me’? When we tell him EPIC he has a grin that lights up. In the morning when getting ready to go to EPIC he enjoys selecting a football jersey to wear to show his friends, putting on his lanyard with his Y badge and filling his water bottle to take along.
The program has helped him in so many ways that include: his gait, being physically active, being among friends, working out with a great staff, riding paratransit, and being out and among the community. EPIC staff are amazing!! We cannot thank them enough. We feel we have truly found a place for Jacob where he feels safe, loved and has a purpose. He’s also getting the physical activity which he desperately needs.
